A while back I bought the book below (Amazon, about 20 euro’s)

[engine.nl.jpg] Engine management advanced tuning by Greg Banish.

Greg has a strong background in cars and calibrates ECU’s for car manufacturers. In his spare time he works as a tuner. The book is interesting because Greg did work from GM. And as the ECU in the Vauxhall VX220 is a GM unit, there is a lot of relevant information in the book.

The book explains the basics of an internal combustion engine, supported by lots of photos and illustrations. From this base the different sensors are explained that the ECU uses to gather information to do its work. Next the items the ECU controls are explained, like the fuel injectors and ignition. Then the actual callibration of the ECU is explained, including datalogging. The book finishes with two chapters on specific Ford and GM tuning, and some chapters on standalone ECU’s and calibration tools.

The book is easy to follow, even for people who don’t already have experience with ECU’s. It gives a good explanation on how an ECU works and what the idea is behind the calibrations.

A recommended read for people who want to know more about ECU’s and how they work.
