After searching a bit on Ebay I found a replacement battery that should give significantly more runtime compared to my original battery. It listed my 1005P as a netbook compatible with the battery, so I ordered the battery for about 35 euro’s.

The battery arrived after a couple of weeks. As the capacity is significantly larger then the original battery, so is the size.

The battery is much higher then the original one. When it is attached to the netbook, the keyboard has much more of an angle when standing on a flat surface. Below are two photo’s comparing the original and the uprated battery fitted.

A positive side effect of this is that the netbook is much more stable with the screen fully folded back. With the original battery the netbook would have the tendency to fall over backwards.

In the picture below I’ve put the batteries next to each other to compare specifications.

The new battery is rated at 11.1V compared to the 10.8V for the original. I don’t thing that’s much to worry about and I haven’t had any problems with the battery on the netbook.

The capacity of the original battery is 4400mAh and for the new one 7800mAh, that’s quite a difference.

So after fully charging the new and the old battery I did some checks in Linux to see what was reported by acpi about the battery’s.

The original battery reports:

Battery 0: Discharging, 95%, 06:46:14 remaining Battery 0: design capacity 4400 mAh, last full capacity 4257 mAh = 96%

Keep in mind that this battery is about a year old now. So it is not strange it doesn’t reach its full charging capacity anymore.

The new battery reports:

Battery 0: Discharging, 98%, 11:26:56 remaining Battery 0: design capacity 6600 mAh, last full capacity 6606 mAh = 100%

Although the runtime is much longer then the original battery, the claimed 7800mAh is not reported by acpi, “only” 6600mAh is reported for the battery. So although the claims about the actual capacity seem a bit optimistic, it is still a pretty good price for a replacement battery and the added runtime is significant.
