Two members of the Dutch Citybug Club did a very nice project to make a programmable interval for the rear wiper. I was lucky enough to be able to buy one.

It is a very professional system, looks like something you would buy in the shop.

I got the version that is meant for the standard wiper.

Installation is pretty easy, but you need to do some soldering to get the best connections. First remove the lower cover by removing these three screws.

Then you remove the two plugs from the wiper control stalk. You need to parallel connect 3 of the wires to the box. So I stripped a bit of the insulation on the three wires and put some solder on them. You need to do this for the white, white with black stripe and blue wire.

Solder:

  • the red wire from the box to the white wire
  • the black wire from the box to the white with black stripe
  • the white wire from the box to the blue wire

Then you need to cut the red wire. Solder the green wire from the box to the red wire that is connected to the plug. And finally solder the blue wire from the box to the red wire that goes into the cable loom. Should end up something like this.

Put the plugs back in and put the cover back on.

Controlling the interval is easy. The most important feature for me is programming the interval. You just switch the rear wiper on and then off. You wait the amount of time you want the interval to take and then switch the rear wiper on again. It will now wipe and wait the amount of time you waited, very easy!
