I've had problems with the standard alarm for a long time. It seems to be very sensitive to radio interference. One example is wireless doorbells setting it off, which is very annoying. Fortunatly there is a solution. The original alarm in the Speedster is an OEM Meta unit. It is plug and play compatible with the Meta M99T2 model. You will loose the option to program the alarm with the Tech 2 though.

So I bought a replacement unit.

Installation is quite straightforward. Remove the dashboard.

You will find the original unit besides the radio (if you have one). Loosen the screws holding it in place, lift the unit out and remove the connector from the rear.

You can see that the units are identical, the original one has the Speedster's Lotus code on it (A116).

The back is also the same.

Plug the connector back in, put the unit back and bolt it down.

Replace the dashboard and you're done. The unit came with two new keyfobs already programmed in. The alarm now works out of the box.
